Hi, I'm Kate Powers. I'm an educator, writer, artist, and mother raising two neurodivergent children while working full-time in an inclusive kindergarten classroom.

I’m passionate about blending advocacy, storytelling, and creativity to support families and children with disabilities. My work is grounded in lived experience and professional expertise, and I’m here to amplify the voices and needs of those often overlooked.
A Professional Life Rooted in Purpose
I hold a double major from the University of Massachusetts Boston and a Master of Education, followed by post-graduate certification in special education. Over the past decade, I’ve continued my education, focusing on the social-emotional well-being of children with disabilities. As a special educator, I bring heart, strategy, and trauma-informed care into every classroom I enter.
I’ve self-published two books for women focused on emotional regulation and overcoming overwhelm. I’m currently working on a children’s book series that will launch in 2026. This series is designed to foster social-emotional learning and resilience in young readers.
A Personal Life of Resilience and Creativity
As a mom to two amazing autistic and ADHD (AuDHD) children, I live the reality of
neurodivergent parenting every day. My daughter is a high-achieving college student majoring in medical illustration and a campus leader with a brilliant, creative mind. My son is a teen astrophotographer who expresses a uniquely brilliant creative mind through his lens and artistic perspective. Parenting them fuels everything I do.
In 2024, I completed my first century bike ride for Best Buddies, adding it to my endurance accomplishments: five marathons, 25+ half marathons, and seven triathlons. As a plus-size athlete, I’ve defied many assumptions about bodies, ability, and what strength looks like. My journey in endurance sports has never been about image; it’s been about grit, healing, and reclaiming space on my terms.
After undergoing shoulder reconstruction surgery, I turned to watercolour painting as a form of creative healing. What began as a recovery practice has become an evolving art business, where I explore everything from coastal landscapes to desert blooms.
A Mission to Educate, Advocate, and Create
Through blog posts, books, workshops, and watercolor, I’m building a world that celebrates neurodivergence, empowers women, and centers the emotional wellness of families. I believe that when we meet ourselves and each other with compassion and clarity, we can change lives—one story, one painting, one breath at a time.
